I have no idea if it would bother me, it's an Americanism. We only address special adults with like titles.
But in general I actually think if it’s common in a culture, then it's a nice way to sound, well, extra polite. And ppl will like it.

What I do know is that calling my parents' rules somehow in any cheeky way, this is a really bad idea!
Discussing is okay with mine but sometimes still complicated. 1st discussion rule there: relaxed and super polite and present my arguments properly. Well, tbh, mostly the rule stayed in the end.

Fair? Knowing a parent-rule and hitting it deliberately without an excuse = I take as fair in my life.
