Hello Sonya.

The weather here has been pretty active. We had a few tornadoes here where I live in Kentucky on Sunday. They were all EF 1s. There was mostly damage to trees and some power outages, and there was a little damage to some buildings, mainly barns and sheds. All in all, we were lucky, it could have been worse. I know some areas in the South have been hit pretty hard as well as in the Midwest. I hope you and yours are doing ok. We're expecting another big line of storms today that could spawn a few tornados, so we are as you put it, "keeping our eyes on the sky."

Now for the subject at hand. I was down in Gulf Shores last spring for four days. I was traveling with others and We rented a really nice beach house and I loved it. I did have the opportunity on my last full day there to check out a few gift shops. One of the gift shops I was visiting may have been the same one you mentioned. I saw they had some of those novelty paddles including the "cute little deer" one. I ended up buying one of them. I guess out of a sense of nostalgia. My mom's old paddle was lost over the years and having this one, brings back the memories of a much simpler time. I have it hanging up on the wall in my bedroom.

As far as being effective tools for spanking. These novelty paddles, just like the Fly-Back Paddles with the string and ball removed aren't very effective on a clothed butt. Which I know for a fact. It makes a loud pop, but that's it. So it's more scary than it is painful. On the other hand, on a BARE bottom, it is very effective. It's light and easy to handle, and provides a sufficient sting that will bring a child to tears, without causing undue damage. I got my bare behind sizzled with that paddle on several occasions and from my personal experience can say it was very effective, even in my teens.

Ironically, the only bad thing about that trip was coming back from Alabama, we had to take cover because of a tornado near the Alabama/Tennessee border, then we had to drive through a serious downpour in the Nashville area and had to pull off the road and wait that out. So what should have been a twelve to fourteen hour trip turned into twenty.

Take good care of yourself and your family Ms. Sonya.
