Part of the reason for the spread of anti-corporal-punishment attitudes may be the fact that, over the course of some years, parents often change their attitude and start to sadistically relish and fetishize punishing children. It turns from an unpleasant but necessary duty to something they do for their own entertainment whenever they can manufacture a plausible "excuse"/"justification". And why? Probably because - (a) it was a form of power they learned very early in life, and (b) they have so little agency and autonomy in everyday life - because we're all so disempowered and dehumanized by national and global "governments", we take what we can of it
