Well honey, I was born in 86' and spanking was still pretty common at least here in the South. My parents strongly believed in it as well as most of the people I knew. Also even though a lot of school districts around the country had already started abolishing Corporal Punishment in school. That practice was alive and well here. I know that from personal experience. It had been abolished in schools here just before my oldest, who is thirteen now, started school. It still happens in this state, but each system decides whether they will use it or not. I believe in spanking but after my personal experience with it in seventh grade, I would not allow it with my kids.

I think the main reason it has fallen out of favor, is because of the increasing number of the "Experts" who flood the media with their "studies" and "findings" on how harmful spanking is. So called "experts" have been saying the same things over and over again since Dr. Spock. I've learned in my lifetime, if you repeat the same thing over and over again, long enough, people will eventually buy into it.

So my answer? Spanking began to fall out of favor in the late 70's or early 80's and now it's almost like an epidemic.

Keep in mind, that's just my opinion.
