In the USA, at least, I doubt that spankings have fallen out of fashion all that much. I suspect that the harsher "can't sit for a week" kinds have, but not the "pink bottom and cry for a few minutes afterwards" kinds which I grew up with. Parents probably just don't talk about spanking their children as much as they used to in earlier generations.
