As a child, like probably all children, I hated and feared being spanked. After all, it is precisely this effect that makes spankings so effective as a punishment. I wouldn't say that I hated my parents in those moments, but I certainly loved them a little less because of my fear. Much later, I realised that this also involved loving guidance through the confusion of life. Through the complicated right and wrong, which I couldn't understand with my childish brain at the time and therefore had to learn with my bum.

Today, I sometimes miss this guidance, which doesn't ask questions when I behave childishly again, but simply puts me back on track. Sometimes I think that I would just love to have a sore bottom again from time to time as the price for this feeling of natural security and relinquished responsibility.
