When I was probably 6 or 7 I was on a family camping trip in the woods, and after we setup camp I was playing around in the back of the Aerostar minivan. The back door was opened up, and I kept jumping out of the back of the van to the ground. I think I was pretending to be fleeing Empirial Storm Troopers. Anyway, to add drama, I decided to jump out and swing on the lift gate support (that's what Google AI tells me it's called) on the way down. Well that bent the support, and I decided it was time to walk off and play something else.

It didn't take long for my dad to notice the bent lift support and take me into the tent for a spanking. I got real scared because I initially thought I was about to have to take down my underwear right outside, with people camped in the next campsite over. I was fortunate enough to just get a few swats bending over in the tent, and I got to keep my pants up.

It was still a big deal because I didn't get spanked often and the whole loss of control of the situation was enough to terrify and embarass me. I can't be sure, but that might be the last spanking I ever got. But I definitely got threatened with spankings for several more years, and just the risk of a spanking was enough to scare me into changing my behavior.

I guess my dad was able to bend the car part back onto shape easily enough because we had that van for another decade and I don't remember there ever being any further trouble with the door
