If someone had asked me when I was little if my parents were strict, I would have said no. My image of "strict" was families where you always had to call your parents "sir" or "ma'am," where you got spanked if you didn't instantly obey anything your parents told you without saying anything, and where you got spanked if you got the tiniest smudge on your dress.

I don't really know. Thinking back, I recall incidents when I now feel impressed with how patient my parents were with my troublesome behavior and merely admonished me verbally. On other occasions I remember being spanked for pretty much nothing - about my father's bad mood or my mother's hormones than anything I had done.

No. Once you were promised a spanking, you got a spanking, no exceptions.

I would frantically beg for another chance and promise to be good. My sister didn't carry on like that. She just kept her silence until her spanking began.
