Hi Wizzardofozz! I certainly believe that the 'unbelievable' was more often than not true! And to me IS VERY BELIEVABLE! I think that unless you were there and grew up during those years it is almost inconceivable to comprehend just what things were really like! I saw so many kids spanked on panties and underware at elementary and to a lesser extent middle school. It was the way in that school, at elementary level, anyway - I will not make generalizations about disciplinary practices in other schools - that children were spanked! (Apart from, as I ponted out in another post, the preschool and kindergarten classes where mild bare bottom spankings did take place. Also the bare bottom spanking I heard taking place in the elementary Principals office.) Most of the spankings were given by women, both the younger and older ones, - to be fair they made up the vast majority of teachers in the elementary school - though there were some male teachers and a couple of them did spank. I think some of the teachers would have liked to give bare bottom spankings but were a little nervous about doing so!

Of course, there may well have been spankings given in private where bottoms were bared that simply were not witnessed. As you rightly point out in those days it seemed almost anything was possible!

My advice to you and anybody else about people who refuse to believe or accept that these things happened is don't waste your energy on them! Most likely they come from later generations who never encountered the sort of discipline and punishments that were the norm for us! They probably cannot even comprehend and conceive of such things! And for those who were from our generation who perhaps lived such a sheltered life that they never encountered the things we did; again don't allow their scepticism and denial to even become an issue!

We and all those who were there and remember those days and had those experiences, know they happened! And that is all that really matters!
