Hi Sonya, Thank you for sharing your experiences here. That one incident,where you were paddled in 7th grade is absolutely horrible. I’m truly sorry you had to experience anything like that. And that assistant principal sounds like a he was a sadist. The fact that he did not even register that he was in the wrong is very hard to absorb.

Though, your experience does clearly illiterate the type of control and authority that was rendered to adults at that time. I received many spankings that were not from my parents, as there was a lot of that “it takes a village” mentality among my circle as well. And I most certainly regarded my spankings from them as quite sound, indeed. However, compared to what you have described, my spankings all sound mild by comparison. I am glad to know that your parents supported you fully through that ordeal. No child deserves that.

I am equally glad that assistant principal was let go. Do you know how long his contract was? I am guessing it was probably just easier to wait out his contract than to go through the firing process.
