I was hoping more people would jump in on this topic as over the years I have heard the stories but being that no one from my childhood was in a blended family, so I have no firsthand knowledge.

Real quick, to see if this strikes a nerve with anyone, an acquaintance once told me that his mother remarried when he was thirteen, she was a widow, and in retrospect he was out of control.

Long story made short, he was soon introduced to spankings, and all spanking were bare bottom. He said the first six months were hell, as he was being spanked often and rules, such as an appropriate bedtime, were being strictly enforced. The next six months were better, but he was still in an adjustment period. However, from that point forward the spankings were infrequent with his last spanking coming at sixteen (see teenage boy and car) and that by the time he graduated, his stepfather and him were on very good terms and in his opinion without him, he would have been in jail by twenty.

In conclusion he had two parting comments. One. The best thing that happened to him was having a man come into his life who cared, if indeed, he was strict ... but not mean.

His only complaint, question so to speak, was in stating that his spankings were all private unless it involved his mother. Then, much to his horror, his stepdad would bare him and spanked him, right in front of her. Stating that if he wanted to disrespect her, he would do the same to him.

Last time that happened, I was led to believe was at fifteen, for backtalk with unacceptable language.

What could I do but shrug my shoulders and tell him, "Hey. I am on your stepfather's side."
