Typically, my stepmom would lecture and scold before the spanking! I think her main reason for this was to humilate us especially as our bottoms were already bared and we were naked from the waist downwards. Also the scolding increased the tension of the situation making an already unpleasant situation even worse. And of course it drove home to us the reson why we were going to get spanked.

My Dad did not lecture or scold much! He simply let his belt do the 'talking'!
