My parents had very high expectations for behavior at school. Like most parents, they had a rule that if they were notified of any misbehavior at school, it meant a spanking at home! I was able to keep my parents in the dark about most incidents at school. At my school, the majority of discipline was handled in house and you really had to mess up for the school to call a parent.

When my parents did get called, I was a nervous wreck! My stomach would be in knots on the bus ride home. My mom was a stay at home mom, so she was always at home when I got home from school. On the days I had gotten in trouble, she would already have her hairbrush in her hand. Mom would start by telling me what my teacher had said, and then I was allowed to give my side of the story. My side of the story always included a few creative elements. Once I was done, she would say “so if I can Mrs. XYZ, will she give me the same story you just did?” I was terrified of mom actually calling, so at that point I would break down and admit that I was in the wrong. I would then get a lecture on the importance of owning up to our mistakes, as well as a lecture on the original offense.

Lectures over, mom would say “Alright young man! You know the rule! Misbehaving at school means you get a spanking. Take down your pants and get over my knee!”

After a spanking for school behavior, I was always made to write a letter of apology to my teacher.

In my early elementary years, I twice got my bare bottom scorched right the school parking lot! Once by mom, and once by dad.
