I do know of parents that would keep a weekly record of their kids activities during the week like a chart or log and then have a day where they would punish them. In one such family, there were four kids, two boys and two girls. Their mother handled all the discipline through the week, including spankings which she always administered bare bottom. Then on Sunday after Church and Sunday Dinner, there was a family meeting. The father would take his belt off and then starting with the oldest boy, would read off the list of infractions and whether his mother had to spank him or not. Then if he had infractions, he would have to stand up, take his pants and underwear down in front of the family make him bend over and grab his ankles and would whip his bare bottom in front of the family. The number of licks were decided by the number of infractions and whether or not he was spanked for them. From what they told me, it was two licks for each infraction and and extra if they got spanked during the week. After he got spanked, he was allowed to apologize, pull up his pants and sit back down. Then the oldest girl was next, followed by the youngest girl and then the youngest boy. If there were no infractions you didn't get spanked at all during the family meeting. He whipped them pretty hard because there were times I saw the butts of the girls and youngest son the day after and would still see marks from the belt.

To them it was part of life at home, but I always felt like it was abuse.

As far as giving kids a spanking when they haven't misbehaved at all just to make sure they don't misbehave. I equate that with getting a speeding ticket as a warning to not speed before you even started the car. So no, I don't buy into this at all. I believe it's the same as the men's magazine forums I read in the seventies and eighties written by paper exhibitionists. Because IMHO no reasonable parent is going to give kids a spanking when they haven't done anything wrong just to make sure they behave, and if any such parent really exists, they don't need to be parents.
