I as born in 1947 so I had to deal with chicken pox. Definitely no spanking for scratching. I think I wasn't a problem with scratching. Lots of lotion. They did have a kind of mitten to put over hands. I mostly remember just being sick. I was around 5 when I got them
Yes some percentage of kids escaped
