Was I modest as a child?
Well, let's see:
From as far back as I can remember I was given baths by my Mother or Ms J.
Earliest of which I was put in with my Half-Brother

On a side note, when we were moved over to our more permanent rooms Ms J continued to give me my baths up until I was off to the boy's school. Granted that as I got older she was less involved in the cleaning part. But she still drew my bath, put out my PJ's, (Pajamas) and wrapped me with my towel at completetion.

I never felt embarrassed by her seeing my snakes and snails, mainly because she had seen me like that since I was a baby.

Of course, that's talking about adults who had been my care givers since I was very little. Some would argue that doesn't count as a proper modesty test. So how comfortable was I about with other children seeing me.

Well, As I said, I took baths with my brothers. When we were very little, that was the norm. Even after we were older, Half-Brother and I would occasionally go back in together. And on a rare occasion, we would be put in with our Older-Brother.

(Specifically, I'm remembering a very nasty blizzard during which we were all three moved back to the North Quarter with our parents for three or four days.)

Of course, the real test is how you fare with other kids your age who are not related. Our most frequent playmates were my Best-Friend, and brother. They also had a cousin who stayed with them on almost any given weekend.

(Even during summers. The was probably a reason why.)

And yes, I was put in the bath with them, on occasions when they stayed at our house. Also when we slept over at theirs. No one seemed to have modesty issues then. Further, we would, during summers, go skinny dipping together down at the pond! (Or less often, in the pool at our house.)

Oddly enough, we never (as far as I recall) bothered to strip when playing in the stream. I don't really know why.

And the skinny-dipping wasn't just the six of us whom I mentioned above. Particularly when it was at the pond. Other neighborhood kids would skinny dip down there along with us.

It was a fairly private area on private property, far from the paved road, and hidden from outside view. Few knew it was there or how to get to it

To be fair, some of the parents were less permissive about the skinny-dipping than others. Two of the Simpson siblings (brother and sister) were with us down at the pond one time when someone stole their clothes.

(Yet suspiciously, not mine or Nicole's clothes. Though to be fair, we did have a spot that we hid our clothes whenever we were in the pond.)

I have long assumed that my Older-Brother was behind that, as it's a prank that would be right up his alley. But aside from the fact that I have no proof, he really had no reason to do so, as he never even interacted with those kids.

Best friend and I were closer in age to them.

Their family wasn't affiliated with the lumberyard. Their family just owned a piece of property that was adjacent to ours. That's why they weren't really allowed to do a lot of the things that we were all allowed to do together on the property. Their family had no history with ours.

So all that said, they would have been in a lot more trouble, than Nicole or I, had they just gone back to their own house without their clothes. We didn't want that, so we decided to sneak them into my house.

For two reasons:
First of all my house was big enough that it was easier to sneak someone in without anyone realizing, than it would be at Nicole's.

Second, my parents kept a storage room full of clothes in all children's sizes, just in case a visitor's children wanted to enjoy our pool.

I simply had to go in through the dog kennel in the ravine, and up two flights of stairs. Then I had sneak the keys to the pool gate out of the drawer in the main kitchen from under Mr K's nose. Finally I had to go through the big ballroom to the pool gate and let the siblings in.

They found clothes that fit, in the storage room, but we're talking about swim trunks, T-shirts, stuff of that sort. The sister, to avoid going home in commando, put on a one piece bathing suit under inconspicuous trunks and t-shirt. The brother was fine just going home commando. (Just trunks and t-shirt)

Even if he had a problem with that, I don't think I would have loaned him a pair of my underwear.

I would guess that they got away with it, as I never heard anything further about it later. I know that my own parents never noticed the missing clothes from the storage room.

At least I can't imagine that they wouldn't have asked Brothers and I what what's going on with that, if they did notice. But to be fair, almost certainly no one kept inventory of what clothes were in there. It was just extras.

My point is that where I grew up these things weren't considered a big deal. We saw each other in many stages of undress. So it wasn't really much different when we got paddled together.

I was less concerned about covering my snakes and snails and was more concerned about how much it was going to hurt.
