I’ll admit I used to do a variant of this.

I learned very early on that my father was the more lenient parent, so whenever my mother spanked me I would be crying genuine tears but I would run to my father and complain how hard it was. I wanted sympathy from him and to make my mother feel bad. If I got either, they didn’t show it.

As I got older, I controlled my emotions but in the opposite way. I wanted to make my mother think that her spankings didn’t get to me, so I tried to remain as stoic as possible. She never commented on this, but if the sensation of her hand across my butt is to be believed, I think my lack of reaction frustrated her.

One time this did backfire….the only time my mother spanked me with a belt, it didn’t hurt at all. I wasn’t trying to control my reaction, I was legitimately surprised that it didn’t hurt. She went outside and got a switch…no faking the reaction when you get the switch.
