Wow! 150 sounds like a lot! But when you break it down the way you did, I'm sure an average of 1 a month probably wasn't uncommon, depending on the time and place. My grandma (born in 1931) once told me that when she was little, she got spanked just about every day! Apparently, the little boy next door also got spanked every day. There were two windows that faced each other and they would talk to each other from their windows, and try to guess who would 'get it' first that day!

In comparison, my spanking count is pretty paltry. I only know of 6 total, with the last at age 10. I remember two of them very well. Three more are kind of hazy recollections, and there is one that I was told about, but I don't remember at all. I feel like there must be a few more that I don't remember, but I can't be sure. I do remember feeling like a spanking was always a real possibility for serious misbehavior, up until puberty. But I was a very well-behaved kid in most ways. A quiet, bookish, only child that just didn't make waves.

As for the number of swats per spanking, I really don't know for the early hazy ones. Enough to make me cry. The only one I could hazard a guess about the number was the last spanking at age 10. My mom was pretty angry with me and I think it was a snap decision. I was just in a nightgown, and we were in the bathroom. There was no warning, she just sat down on the closed toilet, grabbed my arm, and tipped me over her lap. She flipped up my nightie, and I was suddenly getting my bare butt spanked for the first time in probably a couple years. She didn't use an implement, but she was spanking pretty hard, and I think as fast as she could. I think it was probably at least 80-100 swats.

I sometimes wonder if I would be more or less of a spanko now, if I'd had more spankings as a child.
