My mom very rarely gave us kids spankings, instead she preferred a "wait until your father gets home" approach.

Compared to some stories I have read here or heard elsewhere I feel fortunate that spankings were not frequent, though when they happened they were pretty memorable affairs. I believe that (being memorable) was also why they weren't needed much.

I was spanked the "old fashioned way (over the knee, bare with a hand or either bare or pants up with a paddle) from ages four through eight. After age nine through age twelve my mom declared and dad only paddled me on the bare butt. Of course there is no way to count the memories, but I estimate that I was spanked about three times per year most years. I'm quite positive though there were a few years (especially those pre-teen years when I more often tested rules) when I got four or five spankings.

Adding it up, maybe I got 15-20 spankings before age nine, then +/-15 more between nine and 12. I doubt that the total reached 40.
