I was a precocious reader, and one thing which puzzled me in the 60's was articles about how permissively raised and badly behaved us kids were, and how it was all because parents had turned away from the tried and true practice of spanking use when we were naughty.

I wondered where these never-spanked children lived, and why I never met any of them.
