can you explain more about the "salute and socialize" thing? do you mean to salute like in the army or do you mean to shake their hand?

I mean just being polite and respecting the guest.
Saying "Heloo" or "Good afternoon" and responding at "How are you?" or less formal like " How old are you? / What grade are you from the autumn? " ... Things like this...
and if the guest was well know by me, being expected from me to politely ask about news from the guest's husband/wife, daughter/grandchild...
things like this...
