Hello! I’ve been reading this forum the last couple of days and I’m glad I found it. It seems sensible and normal.

My husband and I are both in our late 30s. We live in the midwestern US. Typical middle class suburban family. We are Christians.

When we had our first son we decided we would do traditional parenting. We read books on child training and obedience like Babywise and Childwise.

Noah is 5 and in half day pre-k through our church. He’s my wiggly little boy! We are working with him on submitting to his punishments and staying still. I use my hand in either the legs up (diaper position) on his bed or over the lap.For behavior we are working on just training him on obedience, sitting still at the table and good behavior while in public.

Eric is 8 and in the 2nd grade also through our church’s school. He’s an absolute pleasure to discipline. He easily submits to me, stays in position and just cries (doesn’t scream his head off). He recently got his first paddle. It’s a small oval shaped clear plastic paddle, maybe slightly smaller than a hairbrush. It’s a little flexible so it makes more of a slap than a thud. He’s still little so we are taking it slow with him. I use my hand mostly but are using the paddle more often. For behavior we are working on hygiene (we started giving him baths again because he wasn’t doing a good job on his own), and chores. We are starting to discipline a little for school and sports, but given his age we are taking that slow.
