Well based on my experience, I would suggest upping the hand spanking portion to 5 minutes. I will warm up the bottom like that with my hand first, and then finish with up to 20 spoon spanks depending on seriousness of offense.

A small timer of some sort that the children can see might be useful in your case as well.

Using the hand is more intimate, personal, even maternal when its a mother doing it. It also can warm up a bottom nicely to prepare it for an implement.

I usually have them do a corner time after before the comforting and talking it out.

Does your church provide a room for parents to use for discipline? Am just curious if you tend to use it fairly often?
