I am very much in favor of discipline. I just tend to think if the girls are otherwise behaving themselves, and ask in advance for some leniency on when they do their chores that would be showing maturity which should be awarded. That is what I mean by "negotiate." My situation was a little unique. Around age 13 I began to be spanked after a five year hiatus. By most standards I was a pretty good kid. I was a good student, spoke four languages, played music, honor society president, and etc. But I started to develop some of those teenage attitudes and what bothered my mother the most is she thought I was slacking on my bat mitvzah studies. My mother is a Russian Jew and my Dad is Irish Catholic. Like most Jewish people Mom did not favor spanking. But my Dad's sister constantly told her (often in my presence) that I needed to be spanked on my bare derriere with a hairbrush. Mom finally took her advise. I was bullshit at first. But, with some help, I came to appreciate it was done out of love, and tried to mold my behavior. I was spanked until I was sixteen. The discipline changed my life. I am now a graduate student and an officer in the IDF. Although I have no children yet, I am a strong supporter of spanking and discipline.
