It was great!

In my intro I said he averaged about 1 punishment a week. That’s not accurate. I must have been thinking about how we were going to start maintenance when I wrote that. He averages about two punishments per month. Big difference! He’s a good boy and pretty well behaved. The hygiene, school and completing chores that I initially talked about have improved a lot and we are now focusing on attitude.

Again, Noah doesn’t have a problem with attitude yet. His big challenge is obedience.

My husband and I had been discussing maintenance for a while and we made a decision midweek. It would be either Friday at bedtime or Saturday morning. It would depend on schedules.

We spent the week talking to him about attitude issues but never told him our plan. Saturday morning at 10:00 AM was the scheduled time.

We sat him down and broke the news. We explained it like this, “you’ve been very obedient and good, but your attitude hasn’t been good. Every Friday or Saturday you will be spanked, no matter what. We may even add a second if we feel it’s necessary. This is going to continue until the complaining stops, until the whining stops, until the pouting stops. It’s going to continue until you stop begging for new things when out.”

Now, we explained it much better than the above and went more in-depth. He of course protested and begged, saying he was good all week. We again explained it wasn’t because he broke a specific rule, it was his overall attitude and sense of entitlement.

He’s been great the last few days. My guess is this will be over in a few weeks or a couple of months.
