Oh absolutely. I don't disagree that it can work! My point is that the couple are virtual strangers until they meet in person and learn about each other's interests, families, personal lives, etc. If the underage partner has parents that condemn the relationship, even if it is only two or three years age difference, the parents may take legal action to stop their daughter from pursuing a relationship. This may be the worst case scenario, but in real life, people have been arrested and retraining orders have been served to "protect" the underage party....even though the underage party may be mature and has given consent. So if you are absolutely sure age will not be an issue, then good luck and God bless. But in my experience, it is not something to casually overlook and say "it won't happen to me". Jewel may be a loving, caring, sensitive individual...but if he were to be served with papers because he is dating someone underage, he will be labeled for life unjustly.

I was 18 and my boyfriend was 17 when I had something like this happen to me. We were very interested in becoming friends and spending time together. Once his mother heard of my age (yes, HIS mother) she called me on the phone and threatened to have me arrested for statutory rape. I decided after that, to stop seeing this guy who seememd very mature and able to make his own decisions. It can happen, so who is to say that it only can happen to certain peopl in certain places? It's just something to think about.
