This is why we don't even bother to get to know the kids. They come and go like we change underwear everyday. At lest before the NIL and Portal we were able to get some MAAC level talent and many stayed the course. Not anymore ! If things with the NIL and Portal stay the same, you will never see another Niagara player on the NU Wall of Fame. In fact, hand in hand with that, you will never see another 1,000 point scorer or a 500 level rebounder, or an assist and steals king ever again. Yes, the NIL and Portal are just a couple of Niagara's problems. We already know the others.But the NIL/Portal fiascos are huge issues for Niagara. As far as the other MAAC schools are concerned, somebody has to win the league. For the most part, one school can beat another on any given night. NO MAAC school is ranked. NO MAAC school is a regional power. NO MAAC school is ranked in the top 150 basketball schools or so. NO MAAC school is respected nationally. They are all considered "CUPCAKES" for the devouring majority of mid-majors and high majors. There are NO MAAC upsets of any consequence this current season. Niagara and St. Peter's and the rest of the lot , are kissing cousins without that much separation between them. So don't go comparing apples with apples. Niagara might be bad, but on any given night, they can surprise ANY MAAC team ; especially, if the so called better team is not playing well on that given night. Why are we being out-recruited by the likes of Mount Saint Mary's, Marist, St. Peter's, Merrimack, etc. ? There's no excuse for it.

Yes, this season some schools have marginally better players on the whole. Mount Saint Mary's is well below .500, what are the 8-12 or something. The best record in the MAAC is like 13-6, and those wins have come against fellow marshmallows. Next year, our kids might be 9-8 at this time and those schools you listed might be 5-12. It changes every season. No MAAC program is what I would call GOOD. We are negatively affected every year by the Portal and NIL and so is our conference. The MAAC is a 2 star and 1 star league. Fairfield and a few others I think have one 3 star kid. Its just a matter of who has the most and better 2 star and 1 star players that particular year.

The kids in the MAAC for the most part are on the same keel. Some programs, THIS SEASON, have some better than others; but none of them are ALL EAST type players. Most of these kids come from D-2 and D-3 , or Junior Colleges. It's a SHIT conference with crap basketball.

The NYC teams could always beat us when it counted. One coach was able to do that but with a completely different set of rules. How we will compete NOW is just beyond me. And now the school has to collect to basically give it away for whatever reason thy deem in the interests of the player. You can't be told what they have apparently, but teams like SJU have millions available it has been reported. This is basically the cost of doing business for NU to stay designated as a D-I school. Seriously, this is what public relations means to them other than maybe attracting more males to the school (34%) vs 66$. And even this is not working. My buddy Hnk is sad (I know) because his Bonnies are still winless in A-10 play, but look what he has to cheer for compared to us. Niagara wants the "appearance" of D-I spending no more than absolutely nesessary to get the product out there. Bona has a guy going out there and collecting millions because it's going to take money to ride with those other horses in the A-10. Niagara never did anything with their programs with continuity and organization to keep things rollin. And most noticable during CM's years and afterwards. Nuttin. I was there to witness nuttin.

Iona and Siena have not impressed me at all. In fact, for the most part, they have regressed. Look at the first and second halves of the NU vs MSM and CU vs MSM. MSMs on paper is supposed to be one of the better programs in the MAAC. They have Keys, who's a great shooter along with capable height and length. They play very good defense for a MAAC program. YET, both Niagara and Canisius had sizable leads on them for most of the first half; and in fact, led MSM at the half in both games. In the second half of both games, the script turned around and MSM ended up winning both games. My point ? If NU and CU played as well as they did in the first half of their MSM games, they could have won those games. The talent level and recruiting prowess of each MAAC program is not that much better than any of their counterparts. Any team that makes the Tourney can beat any other team in the MAAC Tournament. We have seen that over the years. Is there a talent difference among the programs year to year? YES, but I don't see that much of a talent gap between the programs. That's why there are so many inter conference "upsets" during the season. Who's gonna win the MAAC this season ? Your guess is as good as mine. Sometimes the so called money rich schools just don't cut it in the MAAC. We have seen that with Siena as an example over the years. In fact, Siena has had a number of bad seasons, in the recent past.
