When we moved Isis up here, we let her roam free (almost). She hates her cat box, so we long ago gave up on making her stay in it. Instead, we put a leash on her and tie her to the passenger side door so that she cannot interfer with the driver. She will looks out the window, talks with us, and sleeps. You could try a practice run to see if they can handle this method.
