I have studies buddhism into depth (well, i got an A in my exam i did on it - could become a priest if i fail at what i wanna be!!) and could provide some information on this for you.

ahem...

Samsara and rebirth are to do with karma. I think chi has something else to do with it but i cant remember! doh! but, as you go through life, you pick up positive and negitive karma. They can each cancel each other out, so really you have to build up as much positive as you can, through good deeds etc. When you come to the end of your present life, your karma is then sort of...added up i suppose is the easiest way of saying it, and you can become whatever creature your karma ammounts to being. The human realm is of course the highest of all realms that you can be reborn into, and was described as a turtle swimming in a vast sea with a gold ring on the surface. Every 100 years he pokes his head out of the water, and if he puts his head through the gold ring he will be human. Or soemthing like that. You can go onto to other realms, one of which is the animal realm etc. Whatever realm you go into, you carry over whatever karma you had from your last life, and again get the chance to build up more positive or negative karma.

Enlightenment is the state of complete nibanna/nirvana (theyre both the same, one is pali, and one is sankrit - different languages). total harmony. there is a point on the wheel of life where beings which become enlightened leave the wheel of life...and i cant remember where they go but i shall look it up at some point later on!

phew....is that ok? any questions class?! sorry i didnt explain it very well!

But what im saying is, if there is such thing as the rebirth, and karma, and comeing back as a different being, then that demonstrates the belief that you choose your own path. Although, who deems that the human life is the best life to be reborn into? You need to know more about buddhism to understand the beliefs of the buddha, and it will all come together when you know the way they live, the teachings, etc.
