Okay, as I remember though, the Buddha's teachings sprout from Hindu beliefs, and the teachings still posit the belief in a Supreme Being, Brahman, who has many different incarnations. There are the incarnations of the creator, maintainer, and destroyer, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, who also have avatars of each, as well as female counterparts that represent the two sides of the Universe, the male and female.

And, let's see, if I remember, there is a Heaven and Hell in Buddhism. Enlightened souls, Bodhisatvas, are taken of the wheel of life and go to Heaven, or paradise or whatever one wishes to call it, and truly evil souls will stop reincarnating an go to Hell.

Also, as I understand, Buddhism, as it spread, integrated certain other Eastern religions, so that in Japan, Buddhists live by the teachings of the Buddha but also worship the indiginous Shinto gods, correct? Thus, how the emperor is a Buddhist but also the descendent of the sun goddess.

Argh, my noggin hurts! Someone get Keats in here to give us a nice relaxing ode or something.

Now, my dear Oscar, all this has rather confused me today. Give me a few hours and I will formulate something better.
