"With me, i seemed to fit in without having to conform, although left because i prefered a different company. "

maybe this has turned you into a gentler creature (despite what you say about being irritating on your own!). you do have a way with empathy i seldom see. i haven't heard a cynical word from you yet. (although i am sure you are quite capable of being cynical!) but perhaps you are not as bitter as myself.

"Although the people were nice enough, there was some level of conformity as there always is to some degree - after all, most groups of friends join because of similarities and the sense of a belonging that each person gives to an another."

well ok, you really do have a point here. i know it wasn't your main point (or maybe it wasn't even a point at all) but i think it is a good one to keep in mind. there is some level of conformity in groups of friends even if as a group they travel outside the norms of society. and i don't think this is bad, just something to recognize. it too can be a trap. you think you're going along being all different and stuff and hanging with your friends. and then one day you realize that if you don't conform to their idea of what is different they can turn on you as easily as anyone else. hopefully no one is in a situation like that.

i really have to get off this subject! now! no more!

nice post to delena noted above, and i have nothing further to add...

but this...

Delena cancerides, the spider of "Arachnophobia"

Delena cancerides (Sparassidae, or Heteropodidae if you like) is found pretty much all over Australia, wherever there are suitable trees. It is the only social sparassid reported, and can live in colonies of up to 300 spiders under bark. Adult females can have a leg spread exceeding 14cm.

that's what i get for looking up people's names! LOL! hope you don't mind delena...i know you are a gargoyle not a spider! :)
