Saw Joe in L.A. last night. He absolutely rocked. Far different kind of show than the last tour. The band opened with "One more time". They covered all the popular songs from the first two albums and even did "Beat Crazy". In the solo set Joe played "Real Men", "Home town" and the Beatles "For no one" as the cover tune. Aside from "Stranger than you", the rest of the show was from the Volume 4. A dissapointly short set. Only 90 minutes. Mary Lee's Corvette opened. An OK folksy trio who was received very politely by the crowd.

Joe made a comment that this was really a one time event, meaning that the album and tour with the original band were more of "why not, let's do it once" kind of an affair.

The best part of all this is that the El Rey theater only holds 700 people when it's a standing crowd. Very small venue. The sound was great with the exception of some feedback which at one point in the early part of the show brought Joe to his knees and had the whole band covering their ears.

All in all, a great night, but after waiting outside for for more than an hour just to get in (they El Rey opened late), we deserve more than just 90 minutes of music.

My wife and I saw the 2nd LA show. I've been a fan for years but never got the chance to see Joe before. The show was absolutely great. The new songs are fantastic and the older material sounded fresh. The band played with lots of energy and seemed to be having a blast. The concert was a shade over 90 minutes and while I would have been thrilled to hear more, those 90 minutes were enough to put this one up there with some of the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen. I've seen some of the speculation about Joe's sexual orientation. I guess it's natural to wonder but the bottom line is that it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. His songs contain a social, political and romantic commentary that is always insightful with just the right amount of satire and poignancy...and let there be no doubt...he rocks. So who gives a s**t what or who he does in the privacy of his own bed. I'd give my right arm to have his musical and lyrical talent. I only hope that I'll have several more opportunities to see this man perform. I hope Joe releases a DVD of this reunion tour.
