The points you make about the direction SRF seems to be heading in are interesting and worthy of a separate discussion.

On the question of authority to give initiation, I did say there were exceptions, but still I believe that we should be suspicious of the claims of some. I would be interested to learn what evidence there is that Roy Eugine Davis was ever authorised to give initiation (other than reports from Mr Davis himself, or from others who may have a vested interest in suggesting that permission to initiate was widely given).
It also seems to me that there is a big difference between being authorised to give initiation on behalf of Yogananda, and giving initiation as a guru in your own right, as Paulsen and Davis seem to do.

In the case of Norman Paulsen, it is clear from his writings that his work within SRF was largely construction work, which he seems to have had a flair for, rather than spiritual teaching. He left SRF while Yogananda was still living, against the advice of his guru. Shortly after leaving he seems to have gone through an alcoholic phase, and to have behaved in a manner which most people would consider unspiritual. It seems to me that this was not the sort of person who Yogananda would have chosen to give kriya initiation.
