Ketch,

I'm not necessarily a supporter or non-supporter of Kriyananda but I've read his autobiographical writings and on the subject of Yoganandaji authorizing only monastics to impart the kriya initiation he differs from your post.

He also says at the Lake Shrine dedication day before Yogananda got into the car to leave he told him that Norman would have his own center one day and so would others. Yogananda also gave permission to initiate kriya to other, non-monastic disciples such as Yogacharya Oliver Black, Bob Raymer, Peggy Bowen Dietz and others. Roy Eugene Davis he authorized as well, and that was shortly before he sent him to be the minister at the Phoenix temple, within a year or two after R.E. Davis' arrival at Mt. Washington.

This business of only the monastics authorized by Master to give kriya isn't true. It is a new development, started by the current president after meeting Binay Narayan in India and making him head of YSS. He influenced her to make the position of president into Yogananda's "spiritual successor," the only "channel" authorized to give kriya. This has been SRF's position ever since the above occurred in the late 1950's early 60's.

Now SRF advertises Mrinilini Mata's new audiotape in their magazine by highlighting portions thereof. One that caught my eye deals with the devotee's loyalty to Yogananda's "successor." I'm sure you can see where this trend is going, making the presidency into the spiritual potentate, ala the catholic church, or more directly the Morman church.

Bill
