Anyone can claim to be authorised by the "Divine Spirit". Yogananda taught us to be suspicious of such people.

On the question of whether or not Paulsen was ever authorised to teach Kriya by Yogananda, you do not know whether the claimed meeting at the Lake Shrine ever took place or not. You only know that Paulsen claims it did.

What we know as fact is that Paulsen only spent a short time with Yogananda towards the end of Yogananda's life. There were many others who had spent much longer with Yogananda and these were the people he authorised to give kriya initiation. Yogananda made a rule within SRF that initiation was only to be given by authorised monastics who had spent at least seven years in the ashrams (there were some exceptions to this rule). Those who were authorised to give initiation had their names listed in the SRF magazines of the time and Paulsen's name does not appear in these lists. As such it seems very unlikely to me that Paulsen was ever authorised to teach Kriya. If there is any evidence that he was (other than his own unsubstantiated claims) please show it to us.

Similarly anyone can make the claims Paulsen makes about his supposed UFO encounters and journeys in alien spacecraft etc. The "evidence" consists soley of Paulsens word. Most people will find this very hard to believe. In short the onus of proof is on those making the claims, not on those of us who dismiss them.
