"5th July 2004".
A birth took place unannounced,
The birth of Rock'n' Roll,
Conceived by many, weaving song,
In the Mississippi bowl?
Maybe it was Tennessee?
A cradle of exciting sound,
I would ask all the guys
But few are still around.
No use tempting young Elvis,
He'd sneer, and just declare,
"Them folks bein' Rockin' 'n' Rollin',
Since I was breathing Air".
Nevertheless the Tupelo boy,
Had nurtured song and found,
The music grew within him,
Till it made an outward bound.
Today we can but marvel,
While we grasp the news,okay?
The rockin' boy both brash and shy,
Returns to us this day.
