Subject: Governance

The Prospectus suggests that the new organisation will be governed by the current Arts Council with the prospect of regional voices being strengthened in that governance as the current membership of the Council expires.

Do you think this proposal is adequate? How do you think regional voices should be represented on the Council? What relationship do you think should exist between any Regional Advisory Bodies and the Council?

No. Not nearly enough detail

Wrong question. How does the Arts Council think it will reach and listen to people in the arts in the regions? One voice per region on Council won’t work.

What relationship do you think should exist between any Regional Advisory Bodies and the Council?
I quite like a Federal Model qua the USA where the RABs are ‘states’ and the ACE is the ‘USA’. No model is perfect but this model makes it quite clear what is a federal (ACE) matter and what is state (RAB) and their respective roles (see below.) The “one voice” would be the federal ACE. On the other hand Advisory Bodies are a total waste of space – name me one in all history which has achieved anything? (I’m deadly serious, and there’s a fiver for anyone who comes up with the goods.)
