Dang French, you still havin a tough time with the street car thing? I see no need to debate, because there is really nothing to debate over. If "undecided's" idea of a street car involves a Reher Morrison motor or a Dutwiler built turboed small block, then that is "his version" or idea of a street car. Everyone has their own opinion and idea of street car. After all, variety is the spice of life. Yours is more demanding than others. No one is right or wrong here. If the car can pass inspection and you have registration with insurance, then you can drive it on the street. If you want to drive it on a trip, or put pump gas in it, then that is your parogative. If you do not mind high maintenance, then go for the gusto. The great thing about Hot Rodding (or is it Car Crafting), is that creativity has no rules or boundries. You can spend as much or as little as you want on your car. A turboed small block does not have to be built by Dutwieler or Lingenfelter performance. A simple LT-1 fuel injected small block out of a late model Camaro (or 5.0 Ford Mustang) with intercooler and a turbo would be a cost conscious alternatve to such an otherwise expensive adventure. I think SS747 has firmly established this. Can a big inch mountain motor be streetable such as you would require? How about an aluminum block, conventional headed 632" hydraulic roller cammed, EFIed, BBC such as the "Crusher Camaro" or the EFIed all aluminum mountain motor that Sonny Leonard built for his personal 57 Chevy. Both cars use stock type suspension and no roll cages. Now these are just ideas that I am throwing out and does not constitute what I believe to be the ultimate combinations. The hot rod world is wide open to ideas and engineering that will constantly bump the envelope of what the "ultimate street car" really is. I appreciate "EVERYONES" car for what it is, as well as the time, money, sweat, and tears that went into its construction (no matter how trivial or extensive that may be). Is it a street car? If they want it to be, then it can be. In the end, build what "YOU" like. I promise there will be many others, like me, who will appreciate the thought, time, money, engineering, and craftmanship that goes into it. One last thought. If you want to beat a car like Todds and still meet the demands of your requirements of a street car, then how about buying a comp or pro street chassis car (roller). Put a twin turboed LT-1 in it with a dashboard controlled wastegate on it. Put a Vintage Air A/C system in it, and a large fuel cell in the rear. A second smaller fuel cell for alcohol injection when the boost gets turned up for those "on demand" spontanious jaunts (or contests). This would be a simple system that could be activated by the programmable ECM for the EFI. A man could even use a space saver spare tire in case you have a flat (Fords are even aluminum). A flat hood would keep visibility at a max, and a nice big aluminum radiator will keep the engine temps in check. You could even carpet over the tin work with some light weight carpet for comfort and noise reduction. There you go... a light weight, high horsepowered street car that could be driven anywhere. Just an idea, thats all. Have a good one, and come see me some time. Later
