This is a mistake on numerous websites. Gloria Redlin was a nurse as part of the Lutheran World Relief (not Catholic as also reported). On the night of 13 Oct 1970, she was taking 1SG Emil Janca (MACV Advisory Team 22) back to his base at Kontum. As they approached a SVN checkpoint on her Honda motorbike, she zipped through it without stopping. For whatever reasons, the ARVN soldiers fired at them, killing Janca (sitting on the rear) and wounding Redlin.

Gloria Redlin would be paralyzed, and died of her wounds on 21 Oct 1970.
