Howdy Chanda;

You must mean the 1st Bridge Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion (USMC), 1st Marine Division since there was no 47th Eng. Bn. (Army or Marine Corps) which served in Vietnam. There is a website dedicated to the 3rd Bridge Co., 7th Eng. Bn. (USMC) at http://www.3rdbridge.org/ which welcomes their brothers who served in the 1st Bridge Co. The webmaster (who coincidently has the same last name as your father) says that he has a list of guys from the 1st Bridge Co. Try sending him an e-mail (his address is at the bottom of the above homepage).

The 1st Marine Division was headquarterd at Da Nang during the time period in question and operated all over I Corps, but Quang Tri Province (next to the DMZ) was primarily the responsibilty of the 3rd Marine Division. For maps of the area around Da Nang see http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/mapnd4901.html and for maps of the area around Hue see http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/mapne4816.html .

As the daughter of a deceased veteran, you qualify to request a copy of your father's Marine Corps personnel file from the National Archives and Records Administration. See http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html for particulars.
