Welcome Home to War-Stories.com. “Body Count” (http://www.war-stories.com/aspprotect/dn-poss-body-count-1965-2.asp) was one of the first “stories” posted at War-Stories, in 1995. Since then, the stats have varied slightly, but finally settled down to what is posted at “Vietnam War Casualties, from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War_casualties)” as follows:

United States of America Vietnam Casualties: Killed In Action, 58,169. Wounded In Action, 303,635 (including 153,303 who required hospitalization and 150,332 who did not). MIA/POW 2,494.

"One out of every 10 Americans who served in Vietnam was a casualty. 58,169 were killed in action or line of duty, and 303,635 wounded out of 2.59 million who served."

The raw WIA numbers reflect “Wounded In Action.” It is a fair “assumption” the numbers indicate the total number of purple hearts awarded, and not the total number of individuals wounded in action.
