Mary:

Thank you for helping James with his VA claim. Our association has had similiar experiences whereas a member's DD-214 did not reflect his service in the war zone of Vietnam or Thailand. There are several things you can do.

First, contact anyone James served with in Vietnam who can write a letter attesting to serving with him there.

Second, search online for the Army unit he served with in Vietnam. Likely, they will have a website. Someone should remember serving with him, and in their photo gallery he may even find photos of himself.

If James is a member of a veterans organization, such as VFW, contact them and ask for help from someone experienced with the VA. If James is not a member...have him join, and the sooner the better.

I am sure others better qualified will speak up with further info for you.
