For an account of Operation Meade River see http://www.historynet.com/magazines/vietnam/3031116.html . It appears that PFC Matthews was KIA somewhere on Go Noi "Island" which was also called "Dodge City" by the Marines and which is bounded by Road 540 (Liberty Road) to the West, the Song Thu Bon to the south, Hwy 1 (QL-1) to the east, and another river to the north. See http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/vietnam/maps/nd49-01/nd49_01c.html . The 2nd/7th Marines were advancing eastwards from Road 540 towards the railroad tracks on 11/21/68. This area is about 16 Km. south by southwest of Da Nang.
