Understand your frustration on how the VA rates things of multiple medical disk functions. If you were not retired they would still add up to 43% = 40% rating as there is no difference in retired or not retired rating. I to had the same feeling you have after I learned the system but then one day I came to grips with this feeling when I met an Vietnam vet with one lag missing and had a flash back to when I was in Quantri Medivac hospital. I was lying in bed and next to me was a brother with his left arm and leg missing (bowed off) laughing and of course i ask why. I (he) said he had just ordered a motor cycle two week ago. Now they saved my leg and I've always walked with a limp but, I have both legs (I can not ride a motor cycle because of my condition) and got a 50% rating. I accepted it because of the trooper in bed next to me in Vietnam. Some thirty years late I was reevaluated to 170% = 100% but I also half to walk with chruches now. Fare! Well at a Vietnam reunion for out unit 2nd Pl 34th Armor I met one of out brother who lost both legs in an explosion (as sitting down) while the other two brothers standing besides lost every thing from the west up (KIA) he was in a wheel chair. Just something to think about.
