Howdy Teresa;

In order to be able to help, we need to know which unit that your father, 1SG Rudolph "Rudy" Guverous, was assigned to in Vietnam. Ordinarily, a first sergeant would be the highest ranking enlisted man of a company, but which company? There were about 3,000 Army and Marine Corps companies in Vietnam in early 1969 some of which were combat units and some of which were support units.

You have got to nail this down a little better before I can get off the ground. Is your father deceased? If he is, then you, as a qualifying next-of-kin, can request your father's military records from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) which will reveal which units that he was in, when he was in them, and which awards and decorations that he was authorised to wear.
