For clarification purposes. James Weston was with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment as part of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade (23rd Division - Americal).

D/1/1 had arrived in VN in 1966 as a separate unit. In Jan/1968, they were then moved to the 196th LIB. In Oct/1970 they were deactivated - then re-activated in Apr/1972 (when Weston was KIA).

James Weston - who had been with the 173rd Avn Brigade - was one of many men from various Units to form the new D Troop (Air) of 1/1. It was short-lived. D/1/1 was again deactivated less than a month later in May/1972.

Weston was acting as an aerial observer on 04/25/1972 when their helo took enemy fire. He would die from wounds sustained the next day - 26 April 1972...the only casualty from the incident.
