I recently arrived in country and had just gotten off that flight with a few other US soldiers. We stood and watched the C-130 go down the runway for take off, when a large plum of dust and dirt flew up on the left side of the aircraft, the aircraft tried to adjust but could not make the take off, went off end of runway with a down slop and guard tower at the end of the runway, a few of us ran down to the aircraft to assist, the back of the aircraft erupted into a ball of flames and black smoke. I do not believe any passenger (mostly RVN) survived only crew and some nurses. Fire put out with bulldozers. I will never forget the smell of burning flesh and the burned bodies being carried off as if frozen in time, similar to Pompei.
