FAMOUS QUOTES

"If your horse says no, you either asked the wrong question, or asked the question wrong."

Pat Parelli

"Horsemanship is not merely a matter of bodily skills, but is based on scholarship and, therefore, is a matter of the mind and intellect. Good horsemanship is based on proper character development and, therefore, is also a matter of mentality and spirit. Without the correct attitudes and insights, there cannot be the right sport."

Charles de Kunffy

"Courage, wisdom born of insight and humility, empathy born of compassion and love, all can be bequethed by a horse to his rider."

Charles de Kunffy

"A horse 'held in shape' by his rider is only posturing in a seemingly correct form, usually for the benefit of inexperienced observers."

Charles de Kunffy

"Speed is the enemy of impulsion."

Charles de Kunffy

"Competitive riding should be classical riding at its best."

Charles de Kunffy

"There are more and more peole who have no access to classical equestrian education or lack the will to purue it, riders who are intellectually lazy, are physically incompetent, and will gladly promote the notion that there is a new kind of dressage akin to technology."

Charles de Kunffy

"When God created the horse he said to the magnificent creature: I have made thee as no other. All the treasures of the earth lie between thy eyes. Thou shalt carry my friends upon thy back. Thy saddle shall be the seat of prayers to me. And thou fly without wings, and conquer without any sword. Oh, horse."

The Holy Qu'ran (Koran)

A SUPPORTING FELLOWSHIP

_________________________

Romans 15:1-6 (NRSV)

We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose of building up the neighbor. For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me." For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul wrote, "We who are strong in the faith ought to help the weak to carry their burdens."

- Romans 15:1 (TEV)

A climbing rose grows beside our patio. Near the end of summer, I noticed a broken cane from the plant lying on the grass. To get it out of the way I placed it among healthy canes, expecting to go back and care for it later.

When I began to prune the roses the following spring, I discovered that something had happened. Supported by healthy canes, the wounded cane had healed and was putting forth new growth and buds. As I looked at the rose cane, once broken but now strong, I thought of the Christian community and Paul's quoted words came to my mind.

The Christian community at its best is a supporting and healing fellowship where individuals with varying needs and gifts are bound together in the love of Christ. When we are strong and healthy, we can extend care and support to someone who is broken and hurting, and in turn, when we are broken, receive help. In the supportive and nurturing environment of the community of faith, healing occurs, strength returns, and new growth takes place until each individual bears fruit.

Prayer: Holy God, may each of us find and give support within the
healing and strengthening fellowship of the church. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The community of faith helps us to heal, grow strong, and bear fruit.

-- Howard Coop (Kentucky, U.S.A.)
