The Shetland Pony



Origins of the Shetland Pony..



The Shetland pony originates from the Shetland Islands, a group of islands lying approximately 100 miles off the north coast of Scotland. It is believed that Shetland ponies may be the descendants of the Tundra Ponies which came to Britain during the last Ice Age.

Over the centuries, the harsh environment and sparse vegetation of the Shetland Islands has caused the ponies to decrease in size from about 13.2 hands down to the maximum 42 inches of today.

Today there are about 100 Shetland ponies on the islands, but their popularity is such that they are bred extensively in mainland Britain, as well as in Australia, North and South America, and Europe.

AS a stay-at-home wife and mother of three boys, I sometimes see my life as an endless round of cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry. Sometimes I wonder if my life is having any impact for God.

One day, God showed me that I am making a difference. Someone called me with a prayer request concerning a premature baby girl. As I hung up the phone, my five-year-old son asked excitedly, "Mom, who had a baby?" He had heard me repeating the information and was curious because he loves his baby brother.


I explained that this baby was very sick and needed prayers. Without hesitation, my son took my hands and said, "Let's pray now." I was moved by his faith and realized he had learned this habit literally at my knee. I have prayed with him often and involved him in other prayer-chain requests.

I had taken this for granted, not thinking about the impact it had. Now, as
I was questioning the impact of my life, my son initiated prayer with me. God is moving through what I do in our family, and I give thanks for the privilege of passing on the faith to my children.


Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the children you entrust to us.
Help us to model a Christlike life for them and all those around us and to be open to learn from them as well. Amen.
