Yeah, you posted this malarky before I believe.

Whether the bible is a true to life account of something that took place or not, really makes no difference as far as this contextual blunder you see the need to perpetuate.

Let's simply regard it as a story.

You totally skipped over verses 6, 7, 8, 9. But those wouldn't have done a thing to help you state your case.

The only thing that is really clear is that Sodom and Gamorrah were destroyed becasue the outcry to the lord about all that was taking place there was too great for the lord to ignore it.

However, where as the "much rarer" meaning of the word "yadha" that you refer to Christians using might be a rarer interpretation now back then it might not have been such a rare interpretation and if that is the case then it would certainly explain how through generations it has been passed down and widely accepted, though perhaps not universally, that the currently rarer interpretation is what was meant.

They wanted to do something bad to the angels in Lot's house, that is certain for they were so willfull about it that they were going to attempt to try to do it by force and they threatened lot telling him that he would get it the worst.

At any rate, as I understood this chapter and verse as a child, the straw that truly broke the camel's back in this case is that the town's people were showing poor hospitality to the strangers in this land. At least that is how I understood it as a child.
